After a slow start where I almost DNF'd it I kept going. After working as a legal secretary and law office manager for most of my professional career as well as going to law school myself I felt an emotional obligation to keep going -- gotta support my profession even if it's just reading about it, right? The first few chapters read a lot like a junior high student's first draft of an English assignment -- very basic and juvenile writing. But then the story took off (spoiler space) after Rick turned up dead. From then on I was invested in Maya finding the killer and getting answers about what happened to Jessica. There were so many things people were doing wrong -- withholding evidence, lying, manipulating facts to get their way. It became a white knuckle read for me that I didn't want to put down. The ending was a little unsatisfying, but the action and lead up to the end were terrific.
