Ms. Marvel: Volume One, is a 2014 graphic novel based around sixteen year old Kamala Khan and her new found superpowers. I found the illustrations in the novel to be very well done, and really help to immerse you in the plot. The story itself seemed to be very well written and thought out. As the first volume in the series, there is enough world building to be digestible but not to the point where the whole plot is set. Kamala's story is very relatable to teens, while also being heart-warmingly family based and fun. A quick read, I'm definitely excited for the next installment. 4.5 Stars. @Ruby_Tuesday of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
The graphic novel Ms. Marvel: No normal by G. Willow Wilson was okay but it did not live up to my expectations. I really liked how there was a woman of color as the lead character, however, I thought that the plot was kind of confusing, therefore, I found it a little hard to tell what was going on and I thought that some of the situations that Ms. Marvel got into were a little ridiculous, also I thought that the characters could have been more developed. Despite all the confusion with the plot, I thought that it was a cute coming of age story that will resonate with a lot of young Muslim women since the main character Ms. Marvel is Muslim. I would recommend this book to all young women who are trying to find out who they are. I would give this book 3 stars out of 5.

An actual relatable superhero for me, a Muslim teenage girl who lives in New Jersey, and has to deal with high school and justice responsibilities. Other than the representation, I do think she's an interesting character, and her storylines are more lighthearted than most other superheroes of the genre. I would definitely recommend this to other people to read regardless of their demographic. We see her struggle with racism/xenophobia and dealing with her new powers too.
