Dane DeHaan his woefully miscast as the hero of this sci-fi action flick from Luc Besson. Valerian is written as a handsome, hunky man of action. Two words that DO NOT come to mind when you say Dane DeHaan are "handsome" and "hunky"; scrawny and creepy are more like it. Lines like, "Think you can survive five minutes without me?" are laughable coming out of his mouth. There is NO chemistry between the leads. Instead of playful flirting, most of the lines Cara Delevingne delivers feel laced with real contempt. Also, who did the hair on this film? Both leads have greasy, unwashed hair throughout. It's gross! It's too bad because there's some very interesting, richly drawn world-building in this. The CGI is excellent, and the universe is populated with unique characters. Unfortunately, the leads are dull and wooden, and the story lacks compelling stakes, so it's not really worth the 2.5hr investment.
