As seems invariably the case, this remake of a 1952 Burton/De Havilland film is less satisfying. Perhaps there will never be a replacement for the old black and white efforts. Having said this, Rachel Weisz plays the black widow very well (the name co-incidence surely a lure to play the role) and the usual trimmings of costume, Victorian mansions, and Cornish countryside are all well manicured reminding this viewer of the current Poldark series. Interesting to read that Roger Ebert gives this a rating of 1/4 even though the poor chap has been gone for four years! Nice comment from a previous reviewer regards My Cousin Vinny. Alas I'd have to agree!
