For me, it was an extraordinary read. Perhaps it had something to do with my Mid West Roots (Wisconsin. circa 1928-1949), yet my admiration for the multi-dimensional levels in the reading gives me a thread of hope, that we do have some dedicated, professional, representatives in Congress with a like agenda. Franken writes with a balance of what it took for him to gain his seat as a Senator, giving sincere gratitude to his staff and those significant in his achievement. An honest insight in to the political system, and the 'tight rope' walk needed to find a path through politics and keep the balance between political hype and working for his State including the good of the Country. He does his homework! He takes responsibility for his mistakes. He engages those he is at odds with, trying to get the big picture. He contacts the 'lost' part of his constituency, ie. Native Americans in his State. Last, but not least is his ability (sans staff disapproval) to keep his sense of humor, right down to the last sentence. Highly recommended.
