A gritty, stylish police procedural/thriller that keeps you turning the pages. It features LAPD homicide Det. Lou Norton & her partner Colin Taggert as they investigate the death of a teenage girl. The case is linked with the disappearance of Lou's sister 25 years ago & there are some surprising revelations in store. The prose is fluid, atmospheric & infused with a wry, acerbic humour as the story is told mostly from Lou's POV. There's a refreshing lack of stereotypes among the characters, especially with how the cops are portrayed. (No iconoclastic loners with bar stools named after them.) Satisfying thriller with a smart, capable protagonist & a truly creepy bad guy.
