"Sara Blaedel, author of the #1 international bestseller The Forgotten Girls--which was roundly praised as "gripping" with "uncompromising realism" (Washington Post) and "tautly suspenseful" (BookPage)--returns with the thrilling next book in her series featuring police investigator Louise Rick. THE KILLING FORESTFollowing an extended leave, Louise Rick returns to work at the Special Search Agency, an elite unit of the National Police Department. She's assigned a case involving a fifteen-year-old who vanished a week earlier. When Louise realizes that the missing teenager is the son of a butcher from Hvalsoe, she seizes the opportunity to combine the search for the teen with her personal investigation of her boyfriend's long-ago death. Louise's investigation takes her on a journey back through time. She reconnects with figures from her past, including Kim, the principal investigator at the Holbaek Police Department, her former in-laws, fanatic ancient religion believers, and her longtime close friend, journalist Camilla Lind. As she moves through the small town's cramped network of deadly connections, Louise unearths toxic truths left unspoken and dangerous secrets. "-- Provided by publisher.

Great book. Definitely keeps you wanting to read "just a bit more". The characters are interesting and their backgrounds intriguing enough that I want to pick up earlier books to understand more about them. Nice little plot twists and side branches that leave you wanting to know more about those stories (hopefully in future editions?) I did find that the main twist was a tad predictable once one understood the characters and their relationships, as what I suspected from about halfway through the book turned out to be correct. But it still takes you a while and some thinking to sort out what's happening. Worthwhile reading!

She's done it again, another book I could not put down until the end! This was an excellent story with strong history and Norse mythology as background characters. I definitely recommend this to readers of mystery fiction.

The first chapter sets the scene for the search for Sune who goes missing. Louise believes what is happening now ties in with her boyfriend's long-ago death. The story has action and suspense galore. Worth reading. If I knew about "The Forgotten Girls" I'd have read it first to get the full profile of investigator Louise Rick.

Although I would normally give a well detailed book a high rating, this time it was to graphic. What happens in the first chapter was hard to stomach and i'm having a hard time finishing this book.

Blaedel is always a great read. Keeps you interested from start to finish. Hope she writes more soon.
