Warning - the protagonist "squeaks" and "squeals" frequently. She also eats cookies in both hands. And in the face of mortal danger, she worries about stripping down in front of the team and lusts after her partner.. hard to imagine such pedestrian concerns predominating while dealing with man-eating Grendels/monsters.
I think these are supposed to be endearing quirks.

A short story about these characters will be coming out soon. It is titled "Lucky Charms." It goes into greater detail about that first desk flair.

Sometimes when an author switches from one series to another, it can feel odd and dislocating. But this didn't happen to me here. The characters were well written, the mystery intriguing and well worth starting.

Delightful, fast, well-written romp with interesting ideas, great fight scenes, and characters that have enough depth and scope to carry on in a series.

Take one tabloid reporter who can actually see all the monsters around, add one former NYPD officer, two dragons, two vampires, lots of ghouls, an elf, a werewolf, and some hard partying Scandanavians. Shake well and top with giant man-eating anti-partiers on New Years Eve.
