This is a lovely book. I think the antique appearance of the collection adds to its charm. The stories are enhanced by reading at the same time as her other novel, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. These tales give insight into the quixotic nature of fairies in her world and even gives the feeling of historical accuracy - this is how people used to envision fairies and the fairy world in old England - a bit of the wonder of childhood magic and a touch of fear of the unknown and unpredictable.

The stories are set in an alternative reality: early 1800's England, a setting in which fairies and magic are part of the fabric of life. These witty and engaging stories will hold your attention. I finished the book in two days.

A return to the charming world of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. An enchanting read even for those who have not read Clarke's novel.
