the book follows a family that finds their uncle's workshop. the uncle had built ant robots and had figured out how to understand and talk to ants. It then follows the life of a to-be queen who finds a secret colony below her mother's ant colony. It shows how to-be queen becomes a queen by starting a colony and what she does for that colony.
