From the balcony of his house, Mike Haines can see the quiet, commonplace beauty of the Holliday farm. But what he remembers is the little sister of his high school girlfriend, Dusty who grew up there. As a teen, Dusty had gone off the rails but when she was a kid, she was sweet, she was funny and she had a special bond with Mike. But after high school, she took off and Mike never saw her again. Then tragedy strikes Dusty's family, she comes back into town and Mike thinks she hasn't changed back to the sweet, funny girl he knew but instead continued to be selfish and thoughtless, leaving her family alone to deal with their mourning. So he seeks her out and confronts her in an effort to understand what went wrong.

"Games of the Heart" are about two characters, Mike Haines and Dusty Holliday. These two have been in love with each other for twenty-five years, but no other relationship formed when they were younger. Until the death of Dusty’s brother, Darrin brings her back home. However as these two figure out their relationship another relationship is in bloom with Mike’s daughter, Reesee and Dusty’s nephew, Fin.

Watching fated love and young love grow throughout the book was amazing, but it was a long road for the Holliday and Haines because everyone is trying to come to grips with old wounds, new paths and tragic losses that just haven’t healed. But in the mist of all this the Haines and Hollidays rallies together to strengthen their numbers because the love that you witness and feel as you read in "Games of the Heart" is profound.

Every emotion Kristen Ashley wrote, I felt. When these characters were joking and laughing, so was I. When a tragedy stuck and made them worried with fear, I felt as if I was there with them. Waiting for an answer of hope, as tears silently slid down my face, soaking the pages while reading forward.

Once again, Kristen Ashley wrote a book that not only moves me, but made me feel like I was part of the family of this amazing, full of love family.
