Interesting acoustic jazz trio in that avant-garde, ambient Euro vein, by one of the founding members of the band Oregon. Mr. Towner’s acoustic 12-string guitar creates suggested microtonality in some of the solos, and Jan Garbarek’s soprano sax is strangely piercing as it usually is. There are also some intriguing bass solos by Eberhard Weber, and something that sounds like a synthesizer and makes an occasional duet with the sax – but no electronics are listed, so it’s probably the bowed bass being played in a very high register. Altogether a fun album, though far from the several styles that are usually brought to mind by the word “jazz”.
