It's easy to get started with 3d printing, but it takes work to become a great 3d designer. Once you've graduated from downloading other peoples' model and doing simple rudimentary modeling of your own, you're going to want to try your hand at making something beautiful and enduring. This gets you going with professional-level (and free!) design tools, and shows you how to model, scan, and perfect your designs. You'll learn amazing tips and tricks along the way, such as how to make 3D-printed moving models that print in place: take them off the printer, give them a wiggle, and they are ready to move! --Publisher's description.

I own this book. It's a really good reference as an intro to different types of printers, different types of printing methods, different types of print models (OBJ, STL, etc). What is also is, is a showpiece for Autodesk software on and offline. It is an introduction book. It is an overview book. It's enough to wet your appetite, rouse your curiosity, and expose you to the possibilities of 3D printing. It's a decent, but, not a great book on the subject. It is 145 pages of material covering a broad range of subjects (the rest is contents and index). And it explains it all in an easy to read, easy to follow format. It's fairly current for the technology that's out there. I would recommend it as an entry level look into the possibilities and promise of 3D printing.

Comprehensive and interesting overall. Excellent resource while becoming familiar with 3D Printing. Quick guide reference to printers, modeling software, file types, fabrication techniques, print services, as well as modeling tips and scanning. Walk through some projects. Colour images - lots of pictures- inside the book.
