This was a fun supplement to the series of Professor Layton visual-novel-style video games. Viewers who already know the game series will appreciate all of the little nods to the visual novels and appearances of familiar characters. However, viewers unfamiliar with the games should also be able to follow the story, and will enjoy the vaguely Holmes-like Layton, and his very young apprentice puzzle-solver, as they unravel the movie's mystery.

This is a very good movie, even if you didn't play the games.
