In this raucous collection of true-life stories, actress and comedian Chelsea Handler recounts her time spent in the social trenches with that wild, strange, irresistible, and often gratifying beast: the one-night stand.

You've either done it or know someone who has: the one-night stand, the familiar outcome of a night spent at a bar, sometimes the sole payoff for your friend's irritating wedding, or the only relief from a disastrous vacation. Often embarrassing and uncomfortable, occasionally outlandish, but most times just a necessary and irresistible evil, the one-night stand is a social rite as old as sex itself and as common as a bar stool.

Enter Chelsea Handler. Gorgeous, sharp, and anything but shy, Chelsea loves men and lots of them. My Horizontal Life chronicles her romp through the different bedrooms of a variety of suitors, a no-holds-barred account of what can happen between a man and a sometimes very intoxicated, outgoing woman during one night of passion. From her short fling with a Vegas stripper to her even shorter dalliance with a well-endowed little person, from her uncomfortable tryst with a cruise ship performer to her misguided rebound with a man who likes to play leather dress-up, Chelsea recalls the highs and lows of her one-night stands with hilarious honesty. Encouraged by her motley collection of friends (aka: her partners in crime) but challenged by her family members (who at times find themselves a surprise part of the encounter), Chelsea hits bottom and bounces back, unafraid to share the gritty details. My Horizontal Life is one guilty pleasure you won't be ashamed to talk about in the morning.

I love to dish and gossip just like any other youngin out there. So at first I was digging the raucous accounts of debauchery. But the more you read, the more shallow and repetitious the stories become. I also found some of her accounts to be simply too insensitive to be funny. I didn't finish the book because I didn't need to.

More crude than I was thinking it would be (although with a title like that, it was my own fault for having those expectations). It was funny at times, and as I got used to the risque and brash way in which it was told, I enjoyed the book more. Still not positive that I would recommend it, but I guess if you are a fan of Chelsea Handler and her other novels (which I will admit, I have not read yet), then go for it!

If you don't want to read a book about a lusty, liberal hedonist, then don't pick this up. Seriously, who are these reviewers who hate the book because they don't like who it's about? You only have to watch Ms. Handler's show once or twice to find out that she is over-the-top ridiculous, which is why I picked read it in the first place. No one is safe in Chelsea's life, including herself, which is why it's so easy to laugh at her experiences.

I enjoyed this book the most of Chelsea's. She stuck pretty much to sex-related escapades gone wrong. While her later books have humorous reflections on her family, real relationships, and friends, My Horizontal Life doesn't derail from what its title indicates, which I'd think is what most semi-intelligent readers would guess as the subject matter, and that's the dirty stuff I was in the mood to read.

I'm by NO means proper or righteous or judgmental when it comes to carnal self indulgence. I approached this book expecting it to be clever and candid, which in parts, it was. But after a while it became really trashy and cheap. I would feel the same way if such exploits had been penned by a man. I'm sure the author has made a nice bundle appealing to a certain target audience.

A very entertaining and easy read. Chelea's writing is direct and her chapters are fast paced. It's a quick and light read, good for a laugh.

I love Chelsea's raw take on sex. If Tucker Max can do this and society lets him get away with the same amount of outrage nonsense (plus his exploits got him a movie) then why are people in such an ire about her? She writes in her telltale way and like her show she keeps me coming back for more.
