Vulvus, Viago, and Deacon are vampires who live here, among us. They are real vampires; undead, immortal creatures who stalk the night and search for human blood, preferably virgins. Witness the many horrid, abominable aspects of vampire life, such as hunting and feeding, vampire rivalry and fighting with werewolves, as well as normal night to night aspects that make them not so different from us like keeping the flat clean, jobs, shopping, meeting people and trying to fit in.

A silly vampire spoof that has its moments, B-

I'd heard excellent things about this flick by Taika Waititi--the New Zealander talent behind 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople' which I thought was excellent. Unfortunately they don't have the Closed Captions that anyone who's hearing impaired needs.
He's also the writing/directing talent of several other flicks that I gather are as fresh, original, free of Hollywood-like ingratiation (Boy; Thor, Ragnarok; and Eagle vs Shark). Unfortunately, they too suffer from the same oversight.

A brilliant spoof of the vampire genre, via a spoof of the documentary style. Also a refreshing twist/reworking of the vampire genre. I am surprised this has never been done before. Pairs well with the TV series from these creators. Laughs guaranteed.

A fun mockumentary that has become my Halloween favorite! If you like shows like the Office and its style, then you will like this movie. The humor is mostly found in subtle dialog or visuals which just adds to the charm of the movie. It isn't a movie that forces you to laugh a certain parts, but a movie that provides a fun story, with humor often involved. I highly recommend!

this is the best mocumentary of all time. This is my kind of humor. vampires in real life not romanticized versions of blood suckers but vampires in todays world with todays issues. The humor is so subtle that it takes you by surprise and you find yourself laughing out loud. This is a movie you watch over and over and show to friends. A classic cult film to treasure.

From the comments, it appears that this is an either like it or leave it movie. The humour is not my style. I chose to leave it.

There were some amusing parts but overall, it left me feeling kind of meh. Had to stop it mid-way. Agreed with another reviewer who said the running gags just went too long that it wasn't really funny anymore.

This was a nice surprise as my expectations were more on the lines of a straight-up "mockumentary". The characters were actually quite sweet and believable so as the film progressed, I found myself caring and feeling for them. The humor is wonderfully dry and the early references circle back around so you feel like you are "in". The occasional gore is a bit over the top but played of well enough in the overall context of the film.
While the vampires are captivating on their own, I found the ancillary characters to be equally delightful in their subdued, sometimes mumbled, deliveries.

What We Do in the Shadows is a spoof mockumentary following the everyday life of four flatmates in New Zealand, who also happen to be vampires. One of the stars is Jemaine Clement (as Vladislav) from the popular TV comedy series Flight of the Conchords. They discuss how they manage to “blend in” with humans and what the main problems with humans are. We follow them as they prepare and go out for a night on the town, and we find out how they joke around and what they find humorous, etc. I particularly enjoyed the individual secret interviews where they complain about each other. Don’t miss watching the extras either as they are a series of hilarious skits about everyday events. (Submitted by Melanie).

Very amusing mockumentary giving a behind-the-scenes look at everyday life for a group of flatmate vampires. A little bit bloody but not too bad; a good horror movie for those who don’t tend to like horror movies.

How are these funny or witty?
Vamp A: I went in to the lounge the other day and there was blood all over my nice antique couch.
Vamp B: Which one, the red one?
Vamp A: Well, it's red now, yeah. If you're going to eat a victim on my nice clean couch put down some newspaper on the floor and some towels. It's not hard to do.
Vamp B: We're vampires! We don't put down towels.
Vamp A: Some vampires do.
Vamp B: Well, not serious ones!
Vamp X: Yes, some of our clothes are from victims. We might bite someone and then... you think, 'ooh, those are some nice pants!'
Vamp X: Just pay attention. Pay attention. Laugh with the group. You will not remember the last hour and a half, of what you have just seen. You will forget... the contents of this movie.
