Even When You Lie To Me by Jessica Alcott, takes her readers on an insight of her main character, Charlotte or Charlie’s, life. Charlie and her one true best friend Lila, are moving into their senior year of high school. It should be exciting to most people, but Charlie is dreading it. But when she meets her new English teacher, Mr. Drummond (who gives her the new nickname of “Chuck”), space clears for him in her heart. Drummond is smart, casual, flirty, and hot, and every student has a special thing for him, both boys and girls. Charlie thinks there’s nothing wrong about crushing on Drummond, except for the fact that he’s her teacher. They form a close bond, but Charlie feels more than a teacher-student relationship between them. Does Drummond have the same intention of crossing the boundaries as Charlie does? Alcott’s exciting turn on this student-teacher love story cliche will leave readers wanting more!
I give this book a 4/5 star rating. I recommend this book for ages 15 and up.

When it's finally senior year, Charlie isn't looking forward to it; another year of boring teachers and classes, being in her best friend's shadow and navigating her tense relationship with her mom. But this year something's different. There's a new English teacher, Mr. Drummond, and Charlie’s not the only one to have taken a special liking to someone new.
I only made it about 10 chapters in before I stopped reading because this book just wasn't holding my attention like I thought it was going to and I found it took a long time to even read those 10 chapters. I don't think I'll be coming back to this book anytime soon but I may try another book by this author. Rating - out of 5 stars.

Alcott's characters feel incredibly authentic, which was my favorite part about this wonderful read. However you feel about the choices that they make, I think anyone can find something to identify with: Charlie's trouble relating to her mom and her emotional downward spiral, Lila's frustration as she tries to be a good friend or even Mr. Drummond's ethical battle. Alcott handles this tough subject beautifully.
