A stunning national bestseller, here is the story of a family in the tradition of Ordinary People and Terms of Endearment. The Farrells are a family as ordinary and special as any family. There are parents, a son, and an eleven-year-old daughter with big dreams of gymnastic gold. But a shocking tragedy consumes them, and it becomes all too clear that when it comes to love, everyone is at risk.

Written during the early days of HIV epidemic, a young girl gets blood transfusion after surgery and 4 years later has full blown AIDS. The community shuns the family. Interesting and at times poignant but some of the charachaters were not well drawn and there were a few dangling plot lines which I felt needed better resolution. Nevertheless, a good read about a difficult time in western society.
