The selction is a very entertaining book with lots of loveable characters (and couples you'll root for untill the end). I really liked this book because it kept me reading and wanting to see what happened next. The selection is sort of a cross between the hunger games and the bachelor. I would recommend this book to people ages 11 plus.

It’s no sophisticated prose but it’s a rather light, entertaining read. Fair warning, make sure to have quick access to the rest of the series as you will want to keep moving through the story once you turn the final page

Lots of awesome political butt-kicking, very satisfying, lovable main character.

The book was okay at first, but it very quickly became one of my favorite book series! I hold this series very dear to my heart, I love all the main characters and the story itself is so wonderfully written.

"One can never help being born into perfection" i whispered.
He came close, wrapping an arm around my waist so that we faced each other. His nose tickled mine. He ran his fingers across my check so gently it seemed he was afraid i might break.
"No, i don't suppose you can,'' He breathed
With his hand holding my face towards his he lowered his lips to mine and gave me the faintest whisper of a kiss.
Something about the tentativeness of it made me feel beautiful. Without a word, i could understand how excited he was to have this moment, but then afraid at the same time. And deeper then any of that, i sensed that he adored me."

The Selection is a wonder book series, with The Selection being the first book in the series. It's almost like a future distopian-esque romance series. Honestly, I ate up the whole series in one weekend. It's just that good. If it's your cup of tea, that is. The book itself if about a girl named America.
Backstory: In the country of Illea, there's a caste system. With Eights being the lowest, and the singular family of Ones. The family of Ones has a son (the prince), named Maxon. Once Maxon becomes of age, a raffle is held, and girls of age who want to participate, are put in a raffle to essentially be taken to the palace, and "fight" for Maxon's heart.
Sound difficult? It is. Out of thousands of girls, why would America even want to enter, and leave her best friend (and hopefully future husband) Aspen? She doesn't. But eventually, she is convinced to enter in; and against all odds, she makes it in. Once in the castle, and meeting Maxon in such a "meet-cute" way, she has to decide who she wants to be with. Aspen, her childhood friend who she promised to be with; or Maxon, the prince who she spends her days with?

It's time for a new Selection - the process used for princes of Illéa to find their queens. America Singer, a poor Five who is not all wanting to enter the Selection, unlike most girls, is persuaded by her family and secret boyfriend to enter. America figures that it's no big deal, since she probably won't win anyway, but miracles do happen. Once America arrives at the palace, she realizes that the competition may prove fiercer than she ever expected, and America realizes that she's in for more than just the good food.

However, the more familiar she becomes with Maxon, he grows on her. Things heat up fast as the love of America’s life is assigned to be a palace guard.
