If romance is your favorite genre, you will like this one. While the plot is not unique, the characters and likeable and their love story is cute.

It was a good book in many ways, but too many f-bombs and I'm not a fan of teenage sex.

This book pissed me off. When I finished it, I wanted to rant and rant about how awful I found it, but I will try to keep it short.

It started out so promisingly. There was a witty line on every page to make me laugh. But then (SPOILERS COMING UP)...

- Sam and Jase have insta-love
- Jase is way too perfect to be a compelling love interest
- Sam is too spineless to be a likable heroine: she knows her drunk mother injured Jase's father in a car accident, but she doesn't speak up. She loves Jase, but she doesn't speak up. That family has eight kids, but she doesn't speak up. She is silent on behalf of her bitchy politician mother, who shows her little love. Plus, her mother is rich and they have a small family. There is really no reason NOT to speak up.
- Jase forgives Sam too easily at the end
- Nan and Tim were unrealistic friends: Nan, for reasons unknown, doesn't want to be friends with Sam anymore, and Tim, a huge asshole, turns nice. What?

Overall, a huge disappointment.

This was a great read! Normally with Young Adult romances, its way too cheesy and uneventful- not this one! I loved the growth of the characters, the twists, and the turns. I finished it in under 24 hours because I couldn't put it down and genuinely cared what was happening next to the characters.

I would have liked to give this book four stars, as I really enjoyed the plot, romance and conflict the young characters face. Where the author lost me was with the political agenda. Okay, I get it - she's a democrat. She paints a picture where republicans are Satan and democrats are saints. Hardly. A politician is a politician, and I could see the Senator from either side of the aisle. (if you want to get factual, Democrat Ted Kennedy did kill his secretary when he drove drunk into a lake and left her to drown - and then tried to cover it up). Next time, leave your politics out of the story and I think you will be writing a better book.

"At sixteen everyone thinks they know what's right" ~Senator Reed

“They say you never know what you would do in a hypothetical situation. We’d all like to think we’d be one of the people who gave up their lifejackets and waved a stoic good-bye from the slanting deck of the titanic, someone who jumped in front of a bullet for a stranger, or turned and raced back up the stairs of one of the towers, in search of someone who needed help rather than our own security. But you just don’t know for sure if, when things fall apart, you’ll think safety first, or if safety will be the last thing on your mind.”

As I YA book I felt that it was actually a bit too mature for most teens I know (lots of language & implied sex). Additionally the story line really dragged for the first 2/3 of the book - the ending got a little interesting, but overall I found it boring.
