Anne Shirley, the red-haired girl from Green Gables, is now a mother herself - still occasionally as impetuous as the young girl she once was, but also with a more practical side to her nature. Ingleside is a busy and contented place, home for Anne, Gilbert and their six lively children. But then Gilbert's maiden aunt comes to stay and for a while the peace is sadly strained.

The title of this book should really be The Children And Housekeeper Of Ingleside. I have the same problem with the Anne books as I do with Margaret Atwood’s books: it seems I started with the best novel and they just get worse from there. They’re all enjoyable enough, but the Anne of Ingleside is nothing like the Anne of Green Gables: she barely says a single word in the entire book!
