I'm only on chapter 3 with much more to go and it feels like I am already knee deep into something I don't want to keep listening to. This is not a memoir about Rebecca Mead as experienced through Middlemarch, but instead an exploration of George Eliot's life through Middlemarch, which is fine, but not what I expected.
Good reader. Seems to be a very intimate detailed account of the author known as George Eliot & the mid 1800's England customs. I enjoyed this for the little details of her life. I struggled with Middlemarch & greatly enjoy her other books.
This audio will be of interest to the George Elliott fan. It definitely made me think about re-reading Middlemarch and reading some of her other books for the first time. It made me nostalgic for novels of old like those by Edith Wharton and Henry James--I'm not sure who writes contemporary novels of similar scope and depth.
