The author did a good job of discussing many factors affecting weight loss into "science bites" that are easier to understand. I discovered lots of tidbits that no doctor ever bothered to explain to me. Although it comprised a small section of the book, it fell short, when the advice at the end was to make sure to eat one pound of vegetables a day, with very little elaboration except to open your fridge and weight the veggies you have. There wasn't much infomration about how many veggies a day one should eat, or even how to make such a diet workable in northern climes where fresh (unprocessed) produce only grows for 6 months of the year. Should we fall back on the Standard American Diet for guidelines on vegetables as backup? I haven't tried the recipes, but they looked reasonable and tasty, if somewhat lacking in specifics like portion sizes.
