He also starred as pompous radio broadcaster Bill McNeal in the NBC sitcom NewsRadio and voiced numerous classic roles on The Simpsons. His seemingly charmed life was cut short when he was fatally shot by his troubled third wife, Brynn, who turned a gun on herself several hours later. Thomas provides a celebration of Hartman's career and a warts-and-all examination of his often intriguing and sometimes complicated life.

I remember when I heard about the horrible circumstances of Phil Hartman's death and I thought I knew who he was but I had no idea that he was involved in so many different things. I really enjoyed the second half... it took me a little while to get into it but I'd recommend it to Hartman fans.

As a fan of Phil Hartman this book did not really give me any new insight into to his life. It is however a well crafted bio and sheds some light on his tragic death. His legacy is laughter.
