This is one of my favorite books to read! The suspense builds as page after page, the green sheep has still not been found. The rhyming text and colorful illustrations help children to predict what comes next. The book is also a fun way to introduce the concept of opposites, such as up and down, ... Read More »

This lovely rhyming book is great to read with young children. It introduces colours as well as actions, and does eventually answer the title question.

It is good that the book introduces the concepts of colour and opposites, but I didnt really like the story or the illustration.

Mem Fox always does a nice job. My toddler liked this funny picture book, trying to find the green sheep. It teaches a variety of vocabulary and has a nice thyme and rhythm.

I wasn't sure whether this would still be suitable for my just-turned-four grandson. I live far from his family, and read with them via FaceTime. Well, the rhythms, rhymes, humour, mystery and artistry of this book kept his interest enough to want it read again. On the second read, I would start the sentence, "Here is the . . . " and he would excitedly finish the sentence: "...star sheep!" or which ever sheep it was. He loves the colour green, so that fact that the mystery is about a green sheep, makes the book especially good in his eyes.

My Toddler storytime today was quite engaged while looking for the lost green sheep. Mem Fox's rhyme and humor drew the children in as they looked at various types of sheep on each page (my favorite is the rain sheep who is acting out a scene from Singin in the Rain). Great book for talking with your toddler about the pictures as you look for that pesky green sheep.

I use the Big Book version of this book for Toddler Storytime, and it's a big hit. We like to make obnoxious snoring noises and close the book very carefully at the end of the book so we don't wake up the green sheep! Pairs nicely with the classic rhyme, Baa Baa Black Sheep, and Sandra Boynton's amazing book, Moo Baa La La La.

A fun read that rhymes nicely, but there's really not a story at all. Each verse just lists different types of sheep and then asks "but where is the green sheep?" The illustrations are nice, though, and if you read it several times, you can have the child identify each type of sheep.
Suitable for very young children.

My brother loved this book and wanted to read it again and again! The repetition of words helped.
