A small size electric slow cooker is typically a volume of 1.5 quart size which we know...would hold about 6 cups. (4 cups to a quart) In using a small size 1.5 quart size, the recipe amount of ingredients "fit" the size.

Vegan: no dairy products, no meat, no animal products eaten; no fish; etc.

These recipes are often of ethnic vari-cultural origins, making use of spices, herbs, vegetables, grains, beans, sauces, ...etc. Dessert recipes are included.

I read the recipes because I'm trying to get a better perspective on measurements using a small size slow cooker.

Most recipes in this book were cooked on low for LONG amount of hours. avg 8 hrs. -- which rather confused me.

An excellent, though specialized cookbook. You don't have to be a vegan to use it. Vegan just means not eating or drinking any animal product. I'm not a vegan, and have had fun experimenting with the recipes. I live alone, and have a smallish crock pot I bought second hand. My appetite isn't large, so I find myself with leftovers and often freeze them. One of my favorites is a stew/soup made with red lentils, carrots, kale, herbs added at the end, chicken broth (instead of water or vegetable broth she recommends), red peppers--it's beautiful as well as tasty. This cookbook also includes nutrition info (but leaves out calcium), amount of prep time and total time required, pictures in almost all cases, and is arranged by type of dish. It begins with considerable info on the use of crock pots, additional other equipment to use with them. If a recipe looks good, but you've got chicken or pork on hand, you can learn to substitute with this cookbook. I, for instance, try to avoid beef, for a variety of reasons, and find that this cookbook helps me do that without missing the taste or the cost.

Full flavor recipes with gluten free, soy free, and oil free options. I'm very impressed, and will be buying this book. Don't hesitate with this one! The best cookbook of the year! If you get into this, you might end up buying more than one 1.5L slowcooker, as she has cookies that are done in under an hour. (Fit the size of the bottom of the slow cooker, and using a towel to absorb moisture/condensation. I am going to be keeping my eye out for this author's upcoming books.
