Clausewitz and others have observed that war is politics by other means. One point being to underscore that a political solution is needed to prevent or end wars. It's interesting watching the former Shin Bet high officials in this documentary, esp. Avraham Shalom (head of Shin Bet, 1980-1986), talk about how Israel's success at "counter-terrorism" (even before there was any "terrorism") enabled Israeli leaders to forego working up any actual political solutions and instead engage in endless war.
Shalom says the policy was and is all tactics and no strategy. It's hard to know if this is purely by design or a result of momentum, lack of imagination/understanding or what. My money would be on design as the major factor.
This film would be a good companion to Hillel Cohen's "Good Arabs". Curiously, the film omits any reference to Baruch Goldstein who massacred 29 Palestinians in the 1994 Cave of the Patriarchs massacre in Hebron.
Good subtitle size & colour
The information comes straight from the mouths of ex shin bet, which is hard to find for any documentry of this type. Kept my attention & would recommend if your interested in this subject.
A really interesting view on the security issues of Israel, and most importantly, first hand opinions and comments by the persons running the security institutions.
Really interesting to watch.
A very interesting documentary. If you are interested in this subject, it’s a must watch.
It adds a conscience to these men. Always remember that Anwar Sadat and Menachim Begin were imprisoned by the colonial powers at their respective times for being terrorists. Maybe that's why they found some common ground at the Camp David Accords in 1978.
However, Aman, Mossad, Shin Bet (Yamas) = CIA, FBI, Blackwater(now renamed) = MI5, MI6, SAS.
How much different than NSDAP, Brownshirts, Waffen SS, Einzatsgruppen.
Insightful blend of revealing interviews and well-chosen historic film footage will increase your comprehension of this seemingly intractable quandary.
