The Feros is the sequel to the fictional superhero novel Vindico. Although the book contains many of the several elements the previous book had (even improving on some), it is distinguishable from the first book and has its own merit as a novel. It strays from the original idea of the perspective being from the villains side, as through much of this book the protagonists are seen fighting for multiple sides or on their own. The book continues to appropriately use humour as a motif throughout the story. Despite this, it manages to keep a thrilling atmosphere. The first book retained a lot of variety through five main protagonists as they were in different scenarios and had different personalities. The variety continues into the sequel by completely separating one of the protagonists from the other four, advancing the story at a good pace. There was also a lot of foreshadowing done in the first book that did not make much sense out of context. The second book referenced these seemingly inconsequential ideas from the first book and made them relevant. Yet there is enough unanswered questions left unanswered to peak the interest of the reader for a possible third installment in the series. This book can arguably be considered better than its predecessor as, now that the characters have become more familiar to us, the stories told become all the more interesting. The first book can even be considered setup for the actions of the protagonists in the sequel because they had all altered emotionally and physically due to the events of the first book. Ultimately, it is a must-read if you have read the first book, as it almost feels appropriately better.

Wesley King is an excellent author. I loved The Vindico. Wasn't sure at the outset of this book if the plot would be as good as his first title, but all in all the threads tied together really well and this was a very exciting read. Hope there will be another sequel!

The first book, the Vindico, had the privilege of becoming one of the top books written by Canadians in 2012-2013. Can't wait for this!
