No Crystal Stair compellingly intertwines the personal story of Lewis Micheaux, an ambitious Black bookseller, with well-known events and people of the Civil Rights era. Micheaux's legacies of freedom through education and reclaiming Black heritage are ones that need to be remembered and honoured. No Crystal Stair is an important reminder that books can incite revolution.

The first couple of chapters rock with the power of his character in his situation. Loved this book!
