A book that takes knitters step by step to the next level

According to the Craft Yarn Council of America, more than one-third of American women know how to knit or crochet. This book shows knitters how to create custom-fitted, one-of-a-kind items that express their personal style. It starts with basic designs and patterns for hats, sweaters, mittens, and other popular items and walks readers through making modifications. Topics include working with gauge, modifying sleeves and necklines, changing yarns or stitch patterns, and adding cables, stripes, beads, or other embellishments to jazz up the design.

Sharon Turner (Brooklyn, NY), author of Teach Yourself VISUALLY Knitting (0-7645-9640-3) and Monkeysuits (1-56158-493-2), designs some of the most vibrant and brilliantly colored children's knitwear available today. She sells her patterns and kits through yarn stores and online at Monkeysuits.com.

I am loving this book. It provides a basis on which to build your own projects. This is a book about the process of knitting - breaking projects down into steps which you can use to create your own patterns; which for me is great. I always think a pattern is a suggestion and you have to take into account your own requirements. This book provides you with the processes to think about what you need to knit rather than knitting exactly what the pattern says. I once watched a lady knit a pair of HUGE mitts, which I thought were probably for a boyfriend or Paul Bunyan. When she finished them, she put them on and seemed surprised they were too big for her. Well yah! So this book will provide you with the process for a number of basic patterns - mitts, gloves, sweaters, vests so you can think about what those little tweaks are that you need to make in your project to make it fit.
