The book was actually kind of intense, just at all the unexpected parts. There wasn't really one protagonist, but it was actually four stories kind of blended all together. I remember today in school someone mentioned something about how "all the bad people get good rewards, but the bad things happen to the good people". That was how I felt about this whole book: my favourite characters have tragic endings and my not so favorites get a classical happily ever after. I guess the author just wanted a variety. 4/5 stars.
