The Archaeological Evidence

In this provocative work, world-renowned scholar Craig A. Evans presents the most important archaeological discoveries that shed light on the world of Jesus of Nazareth. Evans takes on many sensational claims that have been proposed in recent books and peddled in the media, and uses actual archaeological findings to uncover the truth about several key pieces of Jesus' world. For example, what was the village of Nazareth actually like in the time of Jesus? Did synagogues really exist, as the Gospels say? What does archaeology tell us about the ruling priests who condemned Jesus to death? Has the tomb of Jesus really been found, as has been claimed? Evans's engaging prose enables readers to understand and critique the latest theories--both the sober and the sensational--about who Jesus was and what he lived and died for.

Basically, this boils down to "if it is in the Bible it is the true version" !!! No wonder you don't have to be a scientist or secular layman! Plus that approach ignores the numerous contradictions (thousands, hundreds of serious ones) in the Bible. And the thousands of provable historical inaccuracies (such as the date of Jesus's birth, now officially being recognized by Churches as most likely 6 BCE rather than "1 CE/AD" as would be the Biblical version... slimy because it is historically known that King Herod - the local ruler of Judea for the Roman Empire - died in 4 BCE!!! So how much else of the Bible was written by authors long, long after the fact - almost all of it - and also got it WRONG???!!!).

This is simply a highly biased and agenda driven and based on opinion and (very) personal interpretations.

A much better option would be to read books by HIGHLY recognized and credible true Biblical scholars and historians such as Borg, Crossan, Spong, Ehrman, etcetera.

Likewise, the DVD "The Bible Unearthed" and the book "The View from Nebo" for examples of TRUE and legitimate archeology and anthropology relating to Biblical times and claims.

Unless you have a personally established agenda and bias of this type also, research be damned, in which case you'll probably like this book as it will "validate" your OPINION.

Written in a very simplistic way from the viewpoint that all the gospels were written by their namesakes and are 100% accurate. Found several errors in the first few chapters and could not finish it. Good for fundamentalists but not for real biblical scholars.
