Violet is very helpful when she visits her mother's office, and gives pointers on delivering the mail (be sure to decorate it with extra stamps and stickers), helping the boss with his big presentation (like a show-and-tell for grown-ups), and making business cards (after clearing the paper jam in the copier).

As a working mother, this book makes me feel a little - dread? like hidding under the table? Kudos to the mom in the story for retaining her good humor throughout. Kudos to the co-workers for the same. Overall, cute but terrifying.

It's time to go to work! In this manual, a young girl explains how to behave, and what to do, when mom takes one to work. Terms, and the workings of the office are all explained in a way a child can understand, and with a mind to how a child views the world. In one instance, a presentation is likened to show-in-tell. The young girl learns this, and more as she herself "works". However, like any child trying to be helpful, she causes some trouble for mom's co-workers. While the world of the adults is shaded grey, this little girl dressed in red brings life to this dull environment. Many of the co-workers find her presence amusing and uplifting. Her adventure is perfectly portrayed by the layout too, dancing with the text from scene to scene, and even mimicking the story content at times. Also of note is the use of perspective and angles, which has a touch of a child's whimsical view in it. Due to her assumptions and the stereotypes of the office, this child's thoughts will make quite a few parents laugh, and while it may not be completely relevant to the child reading this, the young girls advice on behaviour is sound. Minus the one about the photocopier of course.

didn't capture their interest as I thought it would. Maybe was my less than enthused voice ;)

This book is such fun! If you love Eloise, you'll also love Take Your Mama to Work Today. Great for grown-ups as well as children. Our six-year-old enjoys it and so do we!
