Shock jock Grant Mazzy has been kicked off the airwaves and now works at a small-town morning show. Another mundane day on the job quickly turns deadly when reports pile in of people developing strange speech patterns and evoking brutal acts of violence. Before long, Mazzy discovers that the behavior is actually a deadly virus being spread through language. Now, he has to decide whether to stay on the air in the hopes of being rescued, or deny the virus the opportunity to leap over the airwaves and into the world.

This is a zombie movie (sort of) for people who generally can't stand zombie movies. The focus is on the interesting cause of the zombie-like epidemic, which relates to our use, or misuse, of language. The claustrophobic setting and dark humour add to the horror and suspense. Original and well done.

Just really frellin' Weird. A nice change from any other zombie film I've seen.

Sometimes horror films surprise you. I'd never heard of this one before I found it here at the library. Smart, rather slow burning until you get a sense of what is going on, and it holds you tight. The thing is only 96 minutes but it feels like a lot longer - and I mean that in a good way.

It's a normal Valentine's day in Pontypool, Ontario. Ex-shock jock Grant heads in to work at the local radio station. The news is going as normal until a correspondent reports on a mob gathering in front of a doctor's office. The mob is also speaking and acting very strangely.

This sounds like the beginning of a typical zombie film but it really is not. The infection being spread is very specific but also very random too. Much imagination points for that as well to the claustrophobia of being stuck in a radio station without much contact with outside except with people calling in. It's a very Orson Wells/War of the Worlds sort of vibe.

I am so impressed with this and so glad I took a chance. I encourage you to do the same.

i REALLY like the original premise in this film. I thought it gave a clear new spin on an old subject and was executed wonderfully. Highly recommended!

Not a movie for audiences who expect a run-of-the-mill horror/thriller. Its a very clever and artistically done film that is aimed at a specific viewer. It is disturbing but might not be scary for most people. It mostly takes place in a recording studio since it was a limited budget but it is a very interesting concept.

I was really looking forward to this after reading the reviews, but honestly I was disappointed. Pretty mediocre - no real suspense, no characters worth cheering for, & a weak story.

Spoiler alert. A zombie movie in which people are infected by language, and not just any language, but English. Those who hear French are not infected. That is why French Canadian soldiers are sent to deal with the zombie outbreak. If this is supposed to be an allegory of the "two solitudes", it just doesn't work. This film is simply awful, and is an embarrassment to the Canadian film industry. One of the worst films I've ever seen.

Embarrassing - even by Canadian standards.
