GREMLINS 2 is pretty different than the original, but I like this one better. To start, it's more zany and less dark (though not without it's intense moments). I really enjoy the original, but there are periods where it's somewhat overlong. The comedic aspects are intensified in the sequel and you get to see a lot of new variations of gremlins, which is pretty awesome. The ripoff Grampa Munster character is also great.
A fun '80s movie but not as good as the first.
Years ago I liked the original film better than its sequel. Well time has passed and I guess my sense of time has changed. Then first film is slower. The second moves at a nicer pace. This does not mean the sequel's plot is better, it is simply easier to swallow. The original Gremlins is a big, heavy pill. Part 2 has some original ideas, and very entertaining kooky moments. If you read the novelization, or original screenplays of the first film you'll learn the two neighbors were killed when the creatures drove the yellow monster into their home. Actually the original script was more of a slasher film, but I won't go into that. In Part 2 the Futtermans (if I have their name right?) return for some funny business. They cut their deaths and/or any mention of their deaths from the first film. Its nice to see them battle a flying Gremlin in the 2nd film. A cheap thrill but somewhat satisfying nonetheless. If the first movie had had more of the insanity of the 2nd, it would have been quite a sight to watch. If they ever do another redo, all they'll have to do is combine ideas both films, add more insanity, and The Last Batch might just be the best batch. Set it on a space station perhaps? Or tie it in with brain-eating zombies and the Gremlins become the heroes! Hmm. Nahh.
Very funny, very underrated satire. Add a star if you're from NYC and/or remember the early glory days of Trump and his Tower, as this movie skewers them and many other NYC and films and media-based targets with glee.
This movie is soooooo funny
