Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand that our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. The most advanced of any ancient civilization, Egypt's ancient kingdom lasted for 30 centuries, longer than any other, yet today, it remains one of the most mysterious. Home of the only one of the Eight Wonders of the Ancient World still standing, the Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 1800s. This course chronologically surveys 3,000 years of recorded Egyptian history, from unification in 3100 BC through the death of Cleopatra in 30 BC.

professor very animated to keep your attention. this series has 48 half hour parts. the professor obviously loves Egypt and knows his subject. my only request is that the dvd could have been a little shorter. I think it could have been better with slightly less detail. also he could have cut down on repeating his comments so often. also this series could have used more pictures and graphics

This series needs an URGENT update--it is from 1999! And the next time, I hope they get decent pictures--and more; the ones in this DVD are fuzzy, really bad. Excellent condensed History of Egypt. Brier is knowledgeable and obviously loves his m├ętier. He dismisses the theory that Egyptians were black, and refers us to all the pictorial representations of Egyptians (reddish), in contrast with that of Kushites (black). Brier has a tedious habit of repeating statements twice, but the content is good and quite interesting. The last DVD is a waste of time. He talks about movies and fiction you can read, contending they're either accurate or entertaining. Maybe it's just me, but I am interested in non-fiction--you know, like this series of lectures!
