A light and funny romp from (and through) Hollywood’s golden age. Most of the humor still works – especially the repeated gag of the producer who nods in agreement, along for the ride – and then does a double-take when he realizes what’s REALLY going on. The fake seasickness and the fake Russian accent (and mannerisms) are pretty funny too, though I doubt if anybody would be stupid enough to really fall for either of them. The dancing and singing are worth watching by themselves (particularly the finale, where the confused plot is put right with a minimum of words), and the tunes (Gershwin classics) have become jazz standards. Entertaining!

GREAT 1937 musical romance film with Fred Astaire at 38 and Ginger Rogers at 26 acting/dancing up a storm in Gershwin Bros. score. This is the seventh of the 10 films they were paired in. The Let's Call the Whole Thing Off roller skating sequence is particularly good - as is Astaire's Slap That Bass engine room tapping.
The story line IS a bit whack, but the singing/dancing makes this 1937 film an excellent watch.

Although Top Hat is everyone's favorite, I prefer this one. Snappy dancing Fred is smitten with Ginger (of course!) and when he catches the same ocean liner their attraction leads to a budding romance and a rumor that just won't quit. Everyone thinks they are secretly married! Combine wonderful Gershwin music with a rollerskating number that willl leave the viewer breathless as much as it did the stars, you have the best that this dancing duo could ever do.
