It's the 70's and Ron Burgundy is the king of San Diego. He's the most popular news anchor in town. He and his all male news team rule the city with their suave looks, minimal IQ's and unbelievably bad hair. In Ron's world, women don't belong in the newsroom. So when rising star reporter Veronica Corningstone fills in for Ron one night and the ratings soar, it becomes more than a battle ... it becomes war.

Grant's comments: Like panther cologne, 60% of the time this movie is hilarious all of the time.

Michelle's comments: Everyone I know thinks this movie is hilarious. I don't. Not my type of humor and it would never make my top 25 list.

I liked this silly comedy. It has very little violence. The sexual aspect is mild. Some moments may be too scary for young children. It is not realistic, which the type of humor it is. It is very similar to SNL.

DVD belongs to Olathe KS library. Damaged to the point where it would not play..
Can't believe Bill O'Riley wants to be in the next Anchorman movie. I have not seen any of them. Checked out another copy. Lewd, crude and disappointing. I am not a fan of Will Ferrell and this movie did not win me over.

Quite possibly the stupidest movie ever filmed. I love comedy and funny movies, this was just plain juevenile. Typical Ferrell stuff, in other words.

Loved the dog. Lots of tongue in cheek jokes that push the limits--typical Ferrell. Fun

More silly than funny.

It’s the 1970s and television news reporting is still part of the old boy’s club. Nowhere is this more apparent than at KVWN in San Diego, a station run by chauvinist pigs with the head hog being celebrated anchorman Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrel, screaming a lot). So it comes as no surprise then that when the boss hires a female reporter (Christina Applegate proving she can’t act on the big screen either) blatant sexism—and unexpected romance—rears it’s moustachioed head and….and….and that’s about as far as I got. It’s rare for me to actually give up on a film before it’s over, and almost unheard of to have it happen twice in a row but these two flicks are so godawful terrible I could only stand 30 minutes of each one…plus a few more minutes spent fast-forwarding just in case things got better. Like a pair of really bad Saturday Night Live sketches that go on way too long, there is nothing here that goes beyond a self-conscious chuckle. What humour there is consists mainly of boners, ca-ca, and titty jokes with lots of yelling, juvenile pratfalls, and idiotic non-sequiturs (“I’m mentally retarded!” quips the silly weatherman. Haha!). Yes, I realize writers Ferrel and McKay were probably going for the look of an old school sitcom (and old school laughs) wherein the sheer zaniness is supposed to sweep you up or something. But this is not 1970 anymore and I’m not nine years old. Pathetic.

Movie Review: Anchorman

in the city of San Diego there lives a legendary news team of four men: Champ, Brick, Brian and at the lead of the famed news cast, Ron Burgundy. Living in the prime of their lives having fame, money and stable work life. Though it would not remain that way for long as a new member is being introduced to the news crew. The most upsetting news to the crew though is that the new person to be joining them is a women. While not something that would be seen as upsetting in the 21st century, it is not; seeing a woman in the news room wasn't commonplace. The news crew tried to solve their dilemma by attempting to sabotage her by preforming various pranks on Veronica, usually falling under the category of being raunchy and perverted. Though something changes in Ron something that neither his friends nor he could have expected.

Join in on one of the most renowned comedies of all time, with a famous comedy crew cast and excellent writers. If you like ridiculous comedies then this is a perfect movie for you.

Brian Fantana: [about Veronica] I'll give this little cookie an hour before we're doing the no-pants dance. Time to musk up.
[opens cologne cabinet]
Ron Burgundy: Wow. Never ceases to amaze me. What cologne you gonna go with? London Gentleman, or wait. No, no, no. Hold on. Blackbeard's Delight.
Brian Fantana: No, she gets a special cologne... It's called Sex Panther by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries... Yep, it's made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good.
Ron Burgundy: It's quite pungent.
Brian Fantana: Oh yeah.
Ron Burgundy: It's a formidable scent... It stings the nostrils. In a good way.
Brian Fantana: Yep.
Ron Burgundy: Brian, I'm gonna be honest with you, that smells like pure gasoline.
Brian Fantana: They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
[cheesy grin]
Ron Burgundy: That doesn't make sense.
Brian Fantana: Well... Let's go see if we can make this little kitty purr.

Veronica Corningstone: My God, what is that smell? Oh.
Brian Fantana: That's the smell of desire my lady.
Veronica Corningstone: God no, it smells like, like a used diaper... filled with... Indian food. Oh, excuse me.
Brian Fantana: You know, desire smells like that to some people.
News Station Employee: [Disgusted] What is that? Smells like a turd covered in burnt hair.
News Station Employee: [Horrified] Smells like Bigfoot's dick!
Brian Fantana: [Tries to act casual and walk away] Woah, what's that smell?
