Javed, a British teen of Pakistani descent, is growing up in England in 1987. Amidst the racial and economic turmoil of the times, he writes poetry as a means to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the inflexibility of his traditional father. But when he is introduced to the music of 'the Boss,' Javed sees parallels to his working-class life in Springsteen's powerful lyrics.

From Library Staff

As a near lifelong Bruce Springsteen fan, I really related to the main character (Javed) as he struggled with how to fit in and how to express himself. The story is predictable but entertaining, and the powerful, emotional Springsteen songs I grew up with still resonate after 40 years.

I don't know why people like this movie so much. Based on truth or not, it is still filmed as a fairy tale. (The guy's obsession with Bruce Springsteen is nothing to celebrate.) I much prefer the gritty reality of the film "What will people say."

4.5* Loved this true inspirational coming of age movie. A feel good movie which is rare to say the least. I also love Bruce Springsteen!

I absolutely loved this story of a young man of Pakistani descent trying to find his way in 1980s Luton, UK; navigating the tricky waters of family tradition, prejudice, and pop culture, and his simple desire to write. When he discovers the music of Bruce Springsteen, he suddenly finds an outlet for his emotions and words to describe his struggles. Well-acted and moving depiction of a young man's experience based on true events.

Based on a true story about a young Pakistani teen from England in 1987. He finds his way in life from the music of Bruce Springsteen. If you like the Boss you will enjoy this movie if only for the sound track.

With a soundtrack that can only be described as 'boss', this film blends comedy, drama, and (my personal favorite) musical numbers, to share the story of true-die-hard Springsteen fan and journalist Sarfraz Manzoor and his family. The film shows how music can speak to everyone (even in times of turmoil) and inspire greatness in ourselves.

What a pleasant surprise! Always interesting to learn about other cultures & what does & does not effect them from other countries. Must like music to watch this movie. “The Boss”

This was a pleasant surprise. You don't have to be a rabid Bruce Springsteen fan to enjoy this film which is based on a true story. The music complements the film very well and the songs were very well placed. If you enjoyed Yesterday, you might enjoy this one.

This movie brought back fond memories of attending Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA concert in 1985. A well-acted movie that will make you feel good!
