A classic Steve McQueen movie, worthy of being watched!

This movie is Steve McQueen's passion project about his love of motor car racing. The movie had a very troubled production with many problems such as the star going off the rails after not being allowed to drive in the real race. The book: Steve McQueen: Le Mans in the Rearview Mirror makes a interesting companion to this film. The movie itself goes against the grain of sport movies with no interpersonal romance angles or underdog plotting. Here the love interest is just the love of motor sport where it seems more like a documentary of the race and how driver and crews navigate a tough race which is the 24 hour long endurance race like Le Mans. It takes a bit of patience but if you love racing this is pure movie with amazing photography and real(not CGI)cars without forced Hollywood soap opera angles.

What a great movie. Not a great script but if you love fast cars and races like Le Mans, you will love this one. The movie focuses on the 1970 race, which featured big Porsche 917s (soon to be banned) and Ferraris, Matras, Fords etc. A nice record of the golden age of endurance racing with state of the art camera work for then (no fake computer work here). Enjoy!

Boring. I seem to remember Grand Prix, with James Garner, was much better, although it's been decades since I've seen it.

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. “Not too bad---good performance”. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”
