"Strengthen and deepen your love with a fun, ingenious program of eight life-changing conversations--on essential topics such as money, sex, and trust--from two of the world's leading marriage researchers and clinicians. Navigating the challenges of long-term commitment takes effort--and it just got simpler, with this empowering, step-by-step guide to communicating about the things that matter most to you and your partner. Drawing on forty years of research from their world-famous Love Lab, Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman invite couples on eight fun, easy, and profoundly rewarding dates, each one focused on a make-or-break issue: trust, conflict, sex, money, family, adventure, spirituality, and dreams. Interactive activities and prompts provide motivation to stay open, stay curious, and, most of all, stay talking to each other. And the range--from the four skills you need for intimate conversation (including Put Into Words What You Are Feeling) to tips on being honest about your needs, while also validating your partner's own emotions--will resonate, whether you're newly together or a longtime couple looking to fortify your bond. You will discover (or rediscover) your partner like never before--and be able to realize your hopes and dreams for the love you desire and deserve." -- Back cover.

This book is fascinating and I recommend it for all couples. Eight Dates encourages couples to have deep conversations and listen to each other. If you need date night conversation starters, look no further.

I strongly recommend this book written for couples at any stage, but also with useful ideas to improve relationships in general.

“Everyone deserves a lifetime of love.” is the final sentence in this engaging book about creating a solid, long-term, vibrant relationship—when so many relationships fail. Each chapter (and suggested date, so that you can really talk) covers an integral topic and provides open-ended questions at the end to explore with your partner. 1: Lean on Me (Trust and Commitment); 2: Agree to Disagree (Addressing Conflict); 3: Let's Get It On (Sex and Intimacy); 4: The Cost of Love: (Work and Money); 5: Room to Grow: (Family); 6: Play With Me (Fun and Adventure); 7: Something to Believe In: (Growth and Spirituality); and 8: A Lifetime of Love: (Dreams). These are good exercises that would really result in a stronger relationship when the partners participate sincerely and fully (action-oriented people may have a harder time with the pondering and talking, and may like "The Five Love Languages" better in connecting with their mate.) This book would make a nice engagement or wedding present. LGBTQIA people are represented in the short, illustrative stories, too.
Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman, locally famous in Seattle for their marriage research (The Gottman Institute's Love Lab), have co-authored this book along with another couple.
