Sarcone-Roach perfectly captures cat expressions in this whimsical picture book, but you absolutely MUST read it aloud to get the full effect. I was laughing aloud as I discovered that the feline narrator speaks like a film noir detective recounting a case.

An adorable and funny but ultimately a little odd story of a cat looking after the bears that raided the Little Bear Bakery one night. It's odd because it's one of those stories that takes a lot of liberties with it's narrative as the cat plays the role of both night watchman and detective and fails at both as it helps feed the hungry bears. A lot of the stories events are so focused on the cat's cute narrative style that it's easy to miss some things or misunderstand others, making it hard to do as a read-along. Yet, at the same time, with all the noises, it makes for a fantastic read-aloud if you're an animated reader. So, ultimately, I think kids will love this book but will need a lot of help to actually understand its story.

Cute bears and a cat with quite the personality make this a winner! If you enjoyed "The Bear Ate Your Sandwich", pick up this new title for more fun. Ages 3-6
