This a pleasant enough release, kind of short at 35",could we call this R n B as in the stuff Bruno Mars puts out? I thought I heard strains of George Benson ( a popular singer /guitarist in the 60's to the 80's) too, so I think Leon is grabbing lots of influences in his writing and playing, and still working on where he is going. My preference is still his 2015 release, Coming Home, and that fabulous track, Smooth Sailing, as I find nothing as catchy as that on this release.

With this second album out, Leon Bridges signals that there is more to be heard from this R&B soul singer. Highlight tracks are 1 & 2. But there's enough variety on this album to keep you listening to the end.

"Many of the songs on the album, like "If It Feels Good (Then It Must Be)" sound nothing like the soul ballads of Bridges' debut Coming Home. "I'm very thankful for what Coming Home did, but I didn't want to be placed in this box and depended upon as like, this Sam Cooke prodigy," Bridges says. "I wanted to be able to take elements from Coming Home, but move the sound forward."

The tender love songs on Good Thing reach to greater depths than their 2015 precursors. Bridges says love songs are the essence of R&B, and it's especially clear on his single "Bet Ain't Worth The Hand", that he takes the art to heart and writes from experience."
