Anna Bloom is depressed—so depressed that her parents have committed her to a mental hospital with a bunch of other messed-up teens. Here she meets a roommate with a secret (and a plastic baby), a doctor who focuses way too much on her weight, and a cute, shy boy who just might like her. But wait!  Being trapped in a loony bin isn’t supposed to be about making friends, losing weight, and having a crush, is it? In her fiction debut, Julie Halpern finds humor in the unlikeliest of places, and presents a character whose voice—and heart—will resonate with all of us who have ever felt just a little bit crazy.

"Anna Bloom has skipped so many days of school due to anxiety and depression that her parents have committed her to a mental hospital. Instructed to keep track of her feelings in a journal, Anna instead writes (but never mails) honest and sharply funny letters to her best friend, Tracy. At first, her letters are filled with complaints about the hospital's hideous decor, her fellow patients, and a therapist who seems obsessed with Anna's weight. But after a while, Anna opens up to new perspectives...and maybe a new relationship. For more of Anna's refreshingly snarky observations, check out the sequel, Have a nice day." It's actually scary how accurate this is. It's an interesting subject, but it's not written profoundly well or incredibly good. Four stars.

Oh my gosh! I LOVED this book! Totally engrossing! From the cover, I suspected that it was going to be kind of a chick-lit trashy book but it TOTALLY was not. I loved every bit of Anna's story. Plus the ending was totally worth it! :)

Anna is overweight, depressed, and has never had a boyfriend. When she starts refusing to go to school, her parents bring her to a mental institution to "help her". Anna doesn't know that she will have the time of her life there. She'll meet tons of friends, hilarious acquaintances, and one extremely nice (and nice looking!) boy who just might snag her heart. I loved this book. It's fantastic, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to relive their first love. :)
