When Princess Wilhelmina was a child, the Indigo Kingdom invaded her homeland. Ten years later, Wil and the other noble children who escaped are ready to fight back and reclaim Wil's throne. To do so, Wil and her best friend, Melanie, infiltrate the Indigo Kingdom palace with hopes of gathering information that will help them succeed. But Wil has a secret-one that could change everything. Although magic has been illegal for a century, she knows her ability could help her save her kingdom. Wil's rooftop adventures made me happy. It was so fun to see her become her own person as she battled evil with Black Knife. One unique thing in this world was her voyage to determine whether magic was good or evil. I checked out the next book before I was half way through.

I admit, I guessed Black Knife's secret identity at chapter 7. Otherwise, it was a enjoyable book that I will definitely recommend.

I am in pieces. THE ORPHAN QUEEN is a beautiful book with deeply-entrancing characters and plot twists that zigzag where you didn't expect. That last page is the cliff of cliffhangers! I'm very excited to read the sequel THE MIRROR KING, when I'm able to pick up the pieces of my broken heart. I loved everything about this book! The world-building was fantastic and I think Wil's calligraphy skill was very cool! Recommend this book 1000x along with the prequel novellas of this series.

Incredible and awe-inspiring. I loved this book from the very beginning. It drew me in with the promise of magic, hidden identities, fighting, and ultimate spying. I was not disappointed. This book was all that and so much more. I loved it loved it loved it. From the imminent doom of the wraith, to the fear and uncertainty of Wil's power usage, to the mysterious and complicated relationship with a certain vigilante. I can't get enough of this series. I want Mirror King to be out so bad!!!!

It gets off to a slow start, but once you get into it, you won't be able to put it down, I know that I couldn't. Good thing there are novellas being released that will help to tide you over until April 5th when the sequel comes out!

YA Fantasy is a new genre for me. I wasn't until this last year that I even realized it was a genre I loved. The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows is like other books I have read. I learned that fantasy books don't always start out with fast paced reading. It's all about setting up the scene. The authors seem to want you to completely understand what is going on in the fantasy world. What it was like, what made it change, how it changed the people of the land, and what is being threatened for the future. Once a reader understand that, they can really get into the book. It is my experience that unlike thrillers, mysteries, or dystopians, fantasy books don't start out with lots of action. The Orphan Queen is about a fallen princess. Her former kingdom fell and her parents were murdered in front of her by another kingdom. She now lives like a poor orphan child, disguising her real name and who she is from most and pretty much being a criminal so that she can gather the tools and people to one day take back her crown and kingdom. I REALLY want to discuss this book in detail. I finished it around 1am last night and had dreams about it! I won't be giving away any details and hints thought. There are so many little secrets that fill this book I don't want to spoil it for any of you! The book ended in a HUGE cliffhanger. Normally that would really bother me, but for some reason the "ending" to this was very fitting. The only downfall to this book is that I now have to wait an entire year for the second book to come out. The author did leave us some novellas to tide us over until the next book release. So look for those!

Oh, nameless girl. When will you learn to trust me?

Women are constantly underestimated. Women can be just as cunning and clever as men, and oftentimes are. Our triumph is simply overlooked or unnoticed, because men do not expect it or know to look for it... Use your perceived insignificance to your advantage.
