For the members of SEAL Team Six, it was a rare mission ordered by the president, monitored in real time from the Situation Room. The Houthi rebels in Yemen had captured an American journalist and a member of the Saudi royal family. Their executions were scheduled for Easter Sunday. The SEAL team would break them out.But when the mission results in spectacular failure, the finger-pointing goes all the way to the top.Did the president play political games with the lives of U.S. service members?Paige Chambers, a determined young lawyer, has a very personal reason for wanting to know the answer. The case she files will polarize the nation and test the resiliency of the Constitution. The stakes are huge, the alliances shaky, and she will be left to wonder if the saying on the Supreme Court building still holds true. Equal justice under law.It makes a nice motto. But will it work when one of the most powerful people on the planet is also a defendant?

Randy Singer is a heck of a writer. Like seriously, he is.

if you are into a bit of legalese, dirty politics, and the rollercoasters of law, Singer is the guy and he IS that good.

*Sigh* where to begin?
This was one of the best books I’ve read all year. Despite this book being as thick as a dictionary, the story moved fast and I felt like I didn’t want to miss a moment. Singer takes the reader right to the frontline of the action from page one, inviting your heart into the story of the characters and the significance of the moment. This story was a dramatic telling of events in Yemen which lead to the tragic casualties of American seals. The way it went down was suspicious. It seemed like the president knew beforehand that the mission would fail, but still went ahead. An anonymous source is very concerned and alerts those connected to the families of the fallen service men about this information. The reader is introduced to two of the stories main characters: brilliant lawyers Paige and Wyatt. For Paige, one of the unfortunate deaths included her loving boyfriend Patrick who was a true gentleman of faith, steady spirit, and leadership. Her pain is fresh and the anonymous tip gave information that is too uncomfortable for her to simply ignore. So then, she decides to take the case. Paige must overcome the challenges that come with such a high profile case and simultaneously find healing after the tragedy.

The chronicles of this story were well arranged and extremely relevant. The story had an impact even though it was ‘fiction'. It was easy to reflect on its relevant themes. I mean, do I think for a moment that politicians, journalists and government departments do not have their profound share of corruption and cover-ups??? (Using their status as elites for personal and political advantages?) This was certainly thought provoking.. Highly recommeded to fans of legal thrillers.

If Designated Survivor met Joel Rosenberg, Rule of Law would be the outcome. Buckle up, folks -- the book starts with a bang (literally) and grips you with non-stop action from page 1.

While some of the legal terms went over my head, the nuanced details lent significant credibility to the plot. I appreciated Singer's own background in law and felt that came across well without being pretentious.

Prescient and gripping, the book proves that action and emotion can be expressed without compromising morality.

I received a free copy of Rule of Law from Litfuse Publicity Group. All opinions are my own.
