"We won't always be free to travel wherever we will. We won't always be able to take the time to attend elaborate parties. We won't always have the chance to dance with the ones we love. So dance now." - Breha Organa.

Leia: What are you doing with that?
Bail: Looking for wisdom in the past. Though of course they had no more then than we do now.

Breha: I'm sorry we've burdened you as much as we have already.
Leia: The truth isn't a burden.
Breha: Oh, sweetheart, if only that were so.

"People need spiritual fuel as much as they need food, water, and air. Happiness, love, joy, hope—these are the emotions that give us the strength to do what we need to do." - Amilyn Holdo

Ress: Are we in trouble or aren't we?
Leia: You're not in trouble.
Ress: So we never went to Crait, never even heard of any such planet as Crait, and so definitely didn't find your father there, because how would we find the viceroy on a planet he never visited and we're not even sure exists? It's a mystery.
Leia: We went on a… survey run. Turned up absolutely nothing.
Batten: 'Nothing' would include planets that probably don't exist. Got it!

"We look at our challenges-at our lessons- as things we master in order to achieve our goals. But the most important lessons in life sometimes have to do with what happens when we fail. How do we know when to surrender and walk away? How do we judge our own part in our failures? Is it something to learn from or just bad luck? And how do we pick ourselves up again afterward? You're learning the most powerful lesson of all, my daughter, you're learning how to fall." -Breha Organa

A superbly woven tale of the courage, compassion, and credibility of the young princess Leia. Marred only by a few editing errors, Gray's story is deftly fabricated with true characters, an intriguing plot, and heart stopping twists. Leia's relationship with Kier is a tearjerking and sweet romance that all readers will love.

Insight into what made the young Leia Organa transition from privileged princess to the leader of the rebellion against the evil Galactic Empire. We see how the teenaged princess was already on the side of justice and good, even as she learned more about the injustice and oppression taking place in the galaxy.

I was looking forward to this book which features Leia as a sixteen-year-old. She is about to be declared an official heir to the throne after completing a three tasks. In the book we see her work through the process while trying to figure out why her parents seem so distant. What she discovers along the way prepares her to be the Leia we meet in Episode IV. I really enjoyed the book and am interested in reading more of Claudia Gray's Star Wars books.

I was interested in reading this because it's a part in the Star Wars timeline that I thought was really only mentioned in the books from the Legend Universe, and never really explored.
Leia, Princess of Alderaan is about how Princess Leia discovers the Rebel Alliance and eventually comes to join it. This book also adds drama, typical teenage romance, loss, and development and growth for Leia.
I liked all the references to the prequels, clone wars episodes, and Rogue One, and also enjoyed the cameos made by characters and things like Director Krennic, Panaka, and even the Millennium Falcon. I wasn't really sure what things were clues for The Last Jedi, but maybe someone else can figure it out.
This novel is written well and easy to read and though there were a few things that bugged me, Leia Princess of Alderaan is good book about Leia and probably an enjoyable read for anyone who likes her character.

Violence: Typical sci-fi violence; pretty minimal and not too disturbing. Traumatizing death of supporting character.

Coarse Language: Occasional use of Star Wars swear word "kriff" (perhaps a version of Earth's f**k or sh**).
