"After being together for ten years, Sylvie and Dan have all the trimmings of a happy life and marriage; they have a comfortable home, fulfilling jobs, beautiful twin girls, and communicate so seamlessly, they finish each other's sentences. However, a trip to the doctor projects they will live another 68 years together and panic sets in. They never expected "until death do us part" to mean seven decades. In the name of marriage survival, they quickly concoct a plan to keep their relationship fresh and exciting: they will create little surprises for each other so that their (extended) years together will never become boring. But in their pursuit to execute Project Surprise Me, mishaps arise and secrets are uncovered that start to threaten the very foundation of their unshakable bond. When a scandal from the past is revealed that question some important untold truths, they begin to wonder if they ever really knew each other after all. With a colorful, eccentric cast of characters, razor-sharp observations, and her signature wit and charm, Sophie Kinsella crafts a humorous, yet thoughtful portrait of a marriage and shines a light on the danger of not looking past the many layers of the ones you love to discover how infinitely fascinating--and surprising--they truly are"-- Provided by publisher.

Well written with lovable characters and some laugh-out-loud scenes but the plotline turns surprisingly dark.

I am being nice and generous by saying that this was my least favorite Sophie Kinsella read when I should be saying that I hated it, hated it so much that I might not read another book from Kinsella ever. This was waste of my time. I don't know if I have grown or her writing has changed but it doesn't feel like KInsella's writing. Yes, Kinsella's books are sometimes a hit and sometimes a miss but this was beyond anything in a bad way.

When Dan and Sylvie have everything in life. They are happily married, like their jobs, have twin daughters, and a home. After being told by a doctor that they are in excellent shape and will live long and happy lives, they realize that they will be married over 60 years. Now they are trying to figure out how they will live with each other so long. Dan and Sylvie try surprises and that did not turn out so well. As they learn to live, the surprises of life that really do come up, and how they cope, made the story.

Very easy to read but quite predictable. I found the main character quite frustrating but I have to admit I did find myself chuckling a few times.

I have never read Sophie Kinsella’s books but I did enjoy this one. Although the heroin and her husband decide to « Surprise «  each other to ensure a long and happy marriage, the author offers the reader a surprise of her own through an interesting plot twist. The book offers very funny passages but it delves into a serious and far-reaching family secret. A quick read.

Interested in reading a book where you can see the changes in a character? Try this novel where the main female character changes dramatically from a silly youngish married 32 year old with 2 five year old twins who still holds her dad on a pedestal to a still married 32 year old who now has taken charge of her life, accomplishes personal and professional goals, and lives with her family's past in a realistic way. Try to get through the first 150 pages which are quite silly with funny bits as the husband and wife wonder how to bring surprises into their marriage in order to keep them in love which they expect to be for the next 68 years - a shock to them about their "to death do us part" marriage vows. The book gradually becomes more serious, more realistic in its plot as a family secret unfolds and all must deal with its truth. The title of this book is very apt as surprises abound - some good, funny, others sad and tragic. Not to worry - all ends well. I am happy I didn't return this book after reading the first 150 pages. The next 250 pages flew by.

Loved this book!

This is my first book by this author - who I thought wrote funny novels. Strange premise - why would two people who are supposed to be in love be so afraid to find out that they should be together for 68 more years? Parts were funny but then it too a quick change to very dark and depressing story. Did not really figure out why the story took this change. Don't know it I will take a chance on another of her books - there are way too many out there to read.

I thought the concept of the book sounded a tad silly. It was hard to get into at first, but I'm glad I stuck with it. It ended up being quite enjoyable, and hard to put down.

Definitely not my favourite by Ms. Kinsella. Not a great plot and I felt no connection to the characters.
