A scruffy scientist with a superior attitude explores the fever-dream landscape of a different dimension on a mission to prove that magic isn't really 'magic', but scientifically explainable phenomena. Along the way he has proven useful to the world's inhabitants by solving mysteries with his scientific thinking, so it's no surprise when he is asked to solve the murder of a prominent character.
The surreal setting is the focus here; it takes awhile for any significant character development to begin, largely due to flashbacks, and plot meanders along slowly until the cliffhanger ending. The mood feels like a blend of film noir and old Clint Eastwood westerns, so fans of those genres might enjoy this more than I did.
