Discovered buried in the basement of the home of a brutally murdered family, the young Jane Doe, eerily well preserved and with no visible signs of trauma, is shrouded in mystery. To me this film was of high quality, with smart writing and enough suspense and tension to make this film worthy of high praise as a smart mystery/thriller/horror film!
This does take place in an autopsy room, with graphic dissection and female nudity. High praise for the four main character actors in the film. Brian Cox, playing the father, Emile Hirsch, playing the understudy son, Ophelia Lovibond (Elementary's Kitty and Guardians of the Galazy's Carina), playing the girfriend, and especially to Olwen Katherine Kelly, playing the unflinching body of Jane Doe. I was not able to tell when, there was a dummy or her on the table or not! Fine direction and editing.
I too liked the previous 2010 film by this director, Troll Hunter.

This is a decent little horror film- made by the same director as Trollhunter ( which I also thought was decent ).

I thought it was a decent horror movie.

The movie started out kind of interesting. As soon as the final 30 mins. began I knew it would be just another dumb movie. It wants to make a statement about witchcraft. But it just falls apart. No big deal, just another letdown.

This was an incredibly well-done film. If you've seen the recent cult favorite Trollhunter, this is done by the same filmmakers. This doesn't resort to cheap jump scares or superfluous gore. There are a lot of levels to this movie, and admittedly, it might bore some folks. But what I really enjoyed is that not everything is laid out for the viewer, there's certain conclusions we're left to draw on our own. That I definitely find refreshing. The soundtrack is incredibly unsettling and atmospheric and it was a welcome change to see a father/son duo in a horror movie as opposed to an ill-fated boring romantic pair. WARNING: There is an animal death that is pretty gruesome. The cat is "put out of its misery" but it is an upsetting situation.

Not really much of a story, but better than an average scary film. Good job of building up the scary atmosphere and decent acting. More importantly, this movie is gripping. I highly recommend it.

I was quite invested for about half of the movie. I thought it was going in the direction of a gritty, crime-horror movie... until it got weird.

Worth renting for some basic horror scares. More interesting than scary, more unsettling than dumb. The ah-ha (sometimes uncharacteristic) moment that carries the plot isn't as far fetched when you're that far down the rabbit-hole already.

Not really that "scary" but a slightly-better-than-average story, or at least it wasn't a cabin in the woods with a group of screaming teens who get killed off one by one.

A PBS show on nuclear war was on while I watched this... I now am sure it would have been a far more scarier choice of viewing.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: A cat is shown having its neck broken after being found mutilated but still alive.
